Description

This French Toast Bake is a comforting breakfast casserole made with buttery brioche bread soaked in a cinnamon-vanilla custard, baked until golden, and topped with syrup and powdered sugar.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups brioche bread, cubed
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • Powdered sugar, for topping
  • Maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Arrange brioche cubes evenly in the dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes and press lightly to soak.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  6. Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes until golden and set.
  7. Let cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with syrup before serving.

Notes

  1. Use day-old bread for the best texture.
  2. If the top browns too quickly, cover with foil during the last 15 minutes of baking.
  3. Add berries, nuts, or cream cheese for flavor variations.
