Description

A flavorful twist on a classic sloppy joe, these Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes feature lean ground chicken simmered in a smoky, spicy sauce for an easy, comforting Southern-inspired meal.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb ground chicken (lean or extra-lean)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 green bell pepper, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning

1/2 cup tomato sauce

2 tablespoons ketchup

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika

Salt and black pepper, to taste

4 hamburger buns (brioche or potato)

Optional: shredded cheese, pickles, or coleslaw

Instructions

1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.

2. Add chopped onion, diced bell pepper, and minced garlic; sauté until softened and fragrant.

3. Add ground chicken and cook, breaking apart with a spatula, until no longer pink.

4. Stir in Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, tomato sauce, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce.

5. Simmer for 6–8 minutes until the sauce thickens and flavors combine.

6. Toast the buns to prevent sogginess.

7. Spoon the filling over the buns, add desired toppings, and serve warm.

Notes

Adjust Cajun seasoning to control spice level.

Leftover filling can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.

Use gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps for dietary variations.
