These 4th of July cookie bars are soft, colorful, and baked in one pan for easy serving. Loaded with mini chocolate chips and red white and blue M&M’s, they’re perfect for summer gatherings and quick dessert prep.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1 cup red white and blue M&M’s

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a 9×13 pan with foil
  2. Cream butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar until fluffy
  3. Mix in eggs and vanilla extract until smooth
  4. Add flour, baking soda, and salt and mix just until combined
  5. Fold in mini chocolate chips and M&M’s, reserving some for topping
  6. Press dough evenly into prepared pan
  7. Sprinkle reserved candies on top and press lightly
  8. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until edges are golden
  9. Cool completely before lifting and cutting into bars

Notes

  1. Do not overbake to keep bars soft in the center
  2. Use foil overhang for easy removal from pan
  3. Reserve some candies for topping to improve appearance
  4. Let bars cool fully before slicing for clean edges
